IT level 3 - Introductory Diploma
This Level 3 vocational qualification is designed in partnership with universities, employers and professional organisations. It covers a range of current personal and ICT related components that include communication and employability skills for ICT, Information systems, creating Interactive multimedia products, Game making and Website creation.
This specification consists of around 40 different units of work (students need to undertake 6 units of work), 2 of which are mandatory:
Unit 1 - Communication and employability skills for ICT
Unit 2 - Information Systems
There is also the opportunity to develop skills in bespoke specialist software, which includes:
Games Development
E-commerce
Website Design
The units of work covered will depend on the interest of the individual and the specialism of the teacher taking the group.
How will I be assessed? (Assessment)
This option is 100% coursework based. There will be no terminal examination.
Students will need to complete 6 units of work - 3 units in Year 12 and 3 units in Year 13.
All units are teacher assessed, externally moderated. The units are graded as follows:
- Pass - this is equivalent to an E grade on traditional A-level courses.
- Merit - this is equivalent to a C grade on traditional A-level courses.
- Distinction - this is equivalent to an A grade on traditional A-level courses.
- Distinction* - this is equivalent to an A* on traditional A-level courses.
What kind of work will I do outside the classroom?
This hands-on, applied qualification, gives learners a chance to gain relevant recognised skills essential for their future within the ever evolving technological world. Modules cover all areas of computing, allowing flexibility based on interest or future pathways. This qualification is suitable for learners who are using IT within their daily routine or out of school, and plan to pursue a career within the digital sector.
What could I do at the end of my course? (Progressions)
This qualification allows you to acquire the knowledge to progress to a higher level, such as a degree course, or developing the skills for employment.
