The Dyffryn Taf Curriculum
With the four purposes at the heart of its development, our curriculum aims to provide all learners with authentic learning experiences which will prepare them for their future lives, empowering them to become lifelong learners. By focusing on their progression we can ensure all our pupils aim for the highest in an environment of mutual respect, encapsulated in our school vision, ‘We can, we care.’
Our curriculum is designed to provide a broad and balanced education for our pupils. It places a strong emphasis on developing pupils’ abilities to think critically, solve problems, and become well-rounded individuals with a unique influence from our local area. From this perspective, there is a strong emphasis on the Welsh language and our culture, as well as looking at our place in the world.
What is the Curriculum for Wales?
Everything starts and ends with the Four Purposes; this is what we want to achieve with every single pupil at Ysgol Dyffryn Taf. The Four Purposes provide an overarching purpose for our curriculum. It is a curriculum which ensures our pupils are ambitious, capable, enterprising, creative, ethical, informed, healthy and confident. Ultimately, we want every pupil to achieve their full potential, be ready for the next stage in their lives and be inspired to be lifelong learners.
Our curriculum is inclusive, responding to the needs of the individual and, ensuring that every learner can thrive through a wide range of experiences which enrich their lives. This means the curriculum will be more flexible, responding to the needs and interests of our pupils.
Development of key skills are still an essential part of the curriculum across every subject, where pupils continue to develop literacy, numeracy and digital skills which prepare them for the world of work.
Our departments work together in Areas of Learning and Experiences (AoLEs), where we find new ways to link experiences across subjects. This encourages us to support pupils to make connections across their subjects for a deeper understanding.
Each AoLE has a clear focus on what skills and knowledge are important to their subjects and explore how to empower young people to be effective learners, ensuring pupils make connections and apply what has been learnt across the whole curriculum. These can be found in the ‘What Matters Statements’ and are reflected in the Principles of Progression.
